Graphite drawings are always fun when it comes to animals, but sometime getting a photo good enough to draw from is a mission :) The owner sent through to me several photos of Charlie in different "action" shots but in the end I chose this first photo. The reason? It offered good eye contact, she is actually looking at you which isn't always easy when photographing dogs, and it also captured Charlies loving nature. It was also made harder by the fact that Charlie had recently died so it was even more important to make her portrait as good as possible because she was also family. This portrait was hand delivered by my husband to his brother in New Zealand and hangs in their lounge where she keeps watch over her family. Drawing anyones pets I try to capture their personality as if they are my own pet. I think its important, to me anyway.
